As part of NIEDS’ year-long celebrations called ‘Mahatma@90’ on the 90th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to Irinjalakuda, a special ‘Cheliyampadam gathering’ was organized. The event aimed to honor the historic meeting held at Cheliyampadam during Gandhi’s visit in 1934.

The function was inaugurated by the esteemed Justice Mary Joseph, who emphasized the timeless importance of preserving Gandhi’s memories and actively promoting Gandhian ideals. She applauded NIEDS for their commitment to spreading such ideas and praised the emotional significance of the gathering. Former Chief Whip Adv. Thomas Unniadan, the President of NIEDS presided over the function.

Flowers were reverently placed in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at the Irinjalakuda PWD Guest House and the portrait of Vattaparampil Raman Menon, the convener of the Cheliyampadam conference. Members of Vattaparampil Raman Menon’s family, including Mohandas, Jaya, Dr. Anandam, Lata Srinivasan, Noorjahan (daughter-in-law of Sultan Master), along with NIEDS officials, including Prof. R. Jayaram, M.N. Thamban, Ghulam Muhammad, K.P. Devdas, P.T. George, and Asalatha, also expressed their thoughts and perspectives during the gathering.

It was a remarkable event that paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s visit and the influential ideas he shared. Let us continue to embrace and propagate the principles of Gandhian philosophy for a better tomorrow!
